![]() ![]() What is your favorite musical movie? WEST SIDE STORY. What do you like best/least about your work? Best: I love performing. A character of your opposite sex that you would like to perform: Sweeney Todd. A musical character that you would like to BE (not perform): Mame. Do you have any superstitions before the opening night? Yes, I do. An unforgettable moment (as a performer and/or as a spectator): watching Pavarotti sing onstage while I stood in the wings! But I think the most difficult is when people are talking when I am onstage singing. The worst moment you’ve had live on the stage was (as a performer and/or as a spectator): I don’t think onstage there has been a really bad moment. Do you keep the programmes of the musicals you watch? Sometimes I keep them, but I am not really a packrat! (that is what in the US call someone who never throws things away… a packrat!) London or New York? I love to work… so either city is great with me. Webber o Sondheim? Actually Kander & Ebb! They have written great songs that speak to me! And are great for my type of voice! But having to choose is tough! I like music from both of them! Singing the song: anything at all! I know I could learn a lot from her incredible talents! You would like to make a duet with: Bonnie Raitt. The first musical you saw and/or most impressed you: My first musical I remember seeing was PETER PAN. She has released some Cd’s, ´Right Here / Right Now´ is the last one.Ĭurrently she is playing the role of Velma Von Tussle in Broadway’s HAIRSPRAY. She has shared concert stages with Luciano Pavarotti, Liza Minnelli, Michael Feinstein, and John Kander & Fred Ebb. Karen has headlined Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center. Most recently in New York, Karen starred in the one-woman musical about Dorothy Parker YOU MIGHT AS WELL LIVE. ![]() Karen won the Outer Critics Circle Award for her performance in AND THE WORLD GOES ´ROUND, and starred Off-Broadway in her own show KAREN MASON SINGS BROADWAY, BEATLES AND BRIAN In regional theatre, Karen starred WHITE CHRISTMAS, SIDE BY SIDE BY SONDHEIM, GYPSY, HEARTBEATS and COMPANY. Her other leading roles include Norma Desmond in SUNSET BOULEVARD, which she performed to critical acclaim and standing ovations on Broadway and in Los Angeles for three years. Other Theatre credits include the role of Tanya on Broadway in Abba´s MAMMA MIA! for which she was awarded a 2002 Drama Desk nomination as Best Actress. Her Broadway debut was in the musical PLAY ME A COUNTRY SONG (1982). ![]()
